ALLEGORY OF THE CONE This piece is based on Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". It represents man's struggle to rise from the world of illusion - represented by the two dimensional figures at the bottom of the cone - towards enlightenment - represented by the fully three dimensional figures struggling to rise above the cone. It illustrates that by climbing out of the cave of ignorance into the light we are able to perceive the fullness of reality. Each figure is climbing on the backs of those beneath him/her as each of us is assisted in our spiritual struggle by those who came before us.
